Magic Towns Around Mexico City Tour Summary

This experience is available year round, and the pricing shown is subject to variations based on the number of guests in the tour.

The cities of Puebla and Oaxaca are rich in gastronomy, archaeology and heritage, and can easily be reached from Mexico City. This is our recommendation to visit them in a self-driving tour. Would like a guided version? Let us know and we’ll happily arrange it.

Pick up the rental car in Mexico City, and drive east to Cholula. Visit the archaeological site, and the charming town, then continue to the colonial city of Puebla.

Accommodation at NH Puebla; no meals included today

Enjoy a day in one of most beautiful cities in Mexico, famous for its many churches and colonial architecture, with heavy Spanish influences. We recommend a visit to one of the local markets, eating like a local and visiting the many churches around the main square.

Accommodation at NH Puebla; breakfast included today

Depart early and head south east, so you can reach the city of Oaxaca around lunch time. We recommend visiting en route the botanical gardens at Zapotitlan. Upon arrival in Oaxaca, head to the main market for the most fantastic gastronomic experience. Use the rest of the day to visit the Cathedral and the museum.

Accommodation at La Noria Centro Historico; breakfast included today

Today is the first of two full days to enjoy in and around Oaxaca. We recommend going to Tlacochahuaya and admiring its beautifully ornated main temple, to the archaeological site of Mitla with its pattern decorated walls, to Teotitlan del Valle to admire beautifully woven wool carpets and other articles, and to Santa Maria del Tule to meet the tree with the widest trunk in the world.

Accommodation at La Noria Centro Historico; breakfast included today

In your second full day in Oaxaca, we recommend going to the archaeological site of Monte Alban to admire the engravings depicting dancers, to San Bartolo Coyotepec to admire crafts folk working fine pottery, and to San martin Tilcajete to witness how Alebrijes (whimsical, wooden creatures painted in bright colors) are made.

Accommodation at La Noria Centro Historico; breakfast included today

At the convenient time, head back to Mexico City to return the car at the airport.
